『The Quiet Volume』は、図書館独特の静けさの中で、1回に2人が体験する俳優不在の「オートテアトロ（自動演劇）」作品です。観客／参加者は、ヘッドホンから聞こえるささやきとテクストに導かれ、積み上げられた本を通して、「読む」という経験の私的・共同的性質をめぐる思いもよらない冒険へと入り込んでいきます。17カ国の図書館で「上演」されたオートテアトロの傑作、東京都立中央図書館で日本語版・日本初演！

アント・ハンプトン
1988年にシルヴィア・メレクリアーリとプロジェクト「Rotozaza」を立ち上げ、「ゲスト」パフォーマーがリハーサルなしでその場でインストラクションを与えられる作品や、観客自身が状況を作り出しその中でパフォーマーになる体験型作品などの形で「オートテアトロ（自動演劇）を展開。作品は35カ国語以上に翻訳され、各地で紹介されている。他にソロ活動としては、グレッグ・マクラーレンとの共同作業による「ライブ・ポートレート」の実験『‎The Other People（La Otra Gente）』で、非演劇的環境での「出会い」の構造化に取り組んでいる。Manifesta7ビエンナーレにおける「Projected Scenarios」のヘッド・ドラマターグ。ジェローム・ベル、フォースド・エンタテインメントなどの作品にも協力している。

ティム・エッチェルス
英国を拠点とするアーティスト／作家。多様な文脈でのソロ活動のほか、国際的に評価を確立しているパフォーマンス・グループ「フォースド・エンタテインメント」を主宰する。パフォーマンス、映像、写真、テクスト、インスタレーション、小説などの分野で活躍。演劇論『Certain Fragments』（Routledge、1999）、初の小説『The Broken World』（Heinemann、2008）などが出版されている。MACBA（2009）、ヨーテボリ・ビエンナーレ（2009）、アート・シェフィールド（2008）、Manifesta7ビエンナーレ（2008）など各地で展示も行なう。現在ロンドンのテート・リサーチとLADA（Live Art Development Agency）のシンカー・イン・レジデンス。

The Quiet Volume is a whispered, self-generated and “automatic” performance (Autoteatro) for two at a time, exploiting the particular tension common to any library worldwide. Taking cues from words both written and whispered, the two audience members / participants find themselves burrowing an unlikely path through a pile of books and the personal / collective aspects of the reading experience. This is the Japan (and Japanese language) premiere of the Autoteatro masterpiece which has been presented in libraries in over 17 countries.

Commissioned and produced by Ciudades Paralelas, a festival of portable theatre curated by Stefan Kaegi and Lola Arias, production management by Katja Timmerberg, developed in co-production between HAU Berlin and Schauspielhaus Zürich, in collaboration with Goethe Institute Warschau, Teatr Nowy and the foundation of Teatr Nowy, commissioned by Kulturstiftung des Bundes, the Swiss Cultural foundation Pro Helvetia and Goethe Institute Buenos Aires.

Ant Hampton
Founded Rotozaza in partnership with Silvia Mercuriali in 1998, a project which explored the use of instructions given to unrehearsed “guest” performers, both on stage and, subsequently, within more intimate structures sustained and played out by the audience themselves (Autoteatro). His Autoteatro series have been translated into over 35 languages. Other solo projects include ongoing experimentation around “live portraiture” with Greg McLaren as The Other People (La Otra Gente): structured encounters with people from non-theatrical milieu. He was head dramaturg for “Projected Scenarios” at Manifesta7 Biennial for Contemporary Art and has contributed to projects by Jerome Bel and Forced Entertainment.

Tim Etchells
An artist and a writer based in the UK, he has worked in a wide variety of contexts and is the artistic director of the world-renowned performance group Forced Entertainment. His work spans performance, video, photography, text projects, installation and fiction. He is the author of Certain Fragments (Routledge, 1999) and published his first novel The Broken World with Heinemann in 2008. He has exhibited widely in venues including MACBA (2009), Göteborg Biennial (2009), Art Sheffield (2008) and Manifesta7 Biennial for Contemporary Art (2008). He is currently Legacy: Thinker in Residence (2009–2010) at Tate Research and LADA (Live Art Development Agency) in London.
