ティム・エッチェルスが友人たちから集めたテクストに基づく展示／コンサート。人生のある時点で自分を「守る」ために彼らが用いた歌や音楽について書かれたテクストを通して、「皮肉なあるいは何らかの形での助言としての音楽、逃走あるいは避難の手段としての音楽、気晴らしの手法としての音楽、その中で逸楽に耽る暗い空間としての音楽、励ましとしての音楽、自己定義の形式としての音楽、一言で言えば、自衛のための個人的な（あるいは共同の）手段としての音楽」にアプローチする。
オーストリアの美術館Kunsthaus Grazの企画展『Protections』への参加作品として開始。その際には、美術館の警備員による合唱団が、集まったテクストで言及されている曲を演奏した。今回は、工藤冬里（マヘル・シャラル・ハシュ・バズ）を音楽監督に迎える。
作家、ヴィジュアル・アーティスト、演出家。「英国最高の実験劇団」（ガーディアン紙）と称されるフォースド・エンタテインメント主宰。 フィクション『The Broken World』、『The Dream Dictionary for the Modern Dreamer』、『Endland Stories』、演劇論『Certain Fragments』などが出版されている。また、フォースド・エンタテインメント名義の作品を含め、これまでに『忘却のためのインストラクション』、『視覚は死にゆく者がはじめに失うであろう感覚』、『Quizoola!』、ヴラトゥカ・ホルヴァとのコラボレーション『Over the Table』、池田扶美代とのコラボレーション『in pieces』が日本に紹介されている。
Tim Etchells invites friends to write to him about songs they have used as protection at some point in their lives for the exhibition/concert Wall of Sound to approach “songs as forms of advice (ironic or otherwise), songs as a way to escape or retreat, songs as a form of distraction, songs as a dark space in which to revel, songs as encouragement, songs as a form of self-definition, simply—songs as private (or communal) means of protection.”
The project began as part of the exibition Protections at Kunsthaus Graz, Austria, where Etchells initiated the formation of a choir of security guards. From time to time during the exhibition, the choir performed live a selection of the protection songs. Tori Kudo (Maher Shalal Hash Baz) will be the musical director for the project in Tokyo.
Writer, visual artist, performance maker and the artistic director of Forced Entertainment, “Britain’s most brilliant experimental theatre company” (Guardian) based in Sheffield, UK. He has published fictions The Broken World, The Dream Dictionary for the Modern Dreamer, Endland Stories and a theoretical reflection on theatre Certain Fragments. Among the works by Etchells and Forced Entertainment, Instructions for Forgetting, Sight is the Sense that Dying People Tend to Lose First, Quizoola!, Over the Table in collaboration with Vlatka Horvat and in pieces in collaboration with Fumiyo Ikeda have been presented in Japan.
